Did you know that legacies (or gifts in wills) are the fastest growing source of income for the voluntary sector? Legacy Income for charities currently stands at £2.5 billion every year!
Did you know that?
- The number of charities benefiting from gifts in wills has increased from 1,700 to 2,400 in the last decade
- Donors are becoming more focused on local and smaller charities as their legacy beneficiaries
- You can run a truly great campaign at little or no cost
Are you concerned that such gifts cover the subject of “death and dying” and are hard to promote? This misconception can be a huge but unnecessary barrier. Because a legacy is “cost free” way of giving (it does not leave the bank account when you are alive) 1 in 3 retired people find it the BEST way to support the charity, or charities, they love.
The only disadvantage is that you will not get the gift in the very short term. But in the middle and long term you will be developing the financial security of your charity at a time when statutory and contract funding is likely to decrease.
