An extra £1 billion for UK charities and it’s still not enough..

Research from the Directory of Social Change (DSC) shows a huge increase in giving from grant-making charities, up £1.1 billion (or 20%) on the last edition of its Directory of Grant Making Trusts 2018/19 (DGMT).  This was due to a combination of some 200 new grant-makers to this edition and the existing grant-makers increasing their giving. There was also a 9.9% increase in assets from the previous edition.

Now in its 25th edition and approaching its 50th year in print, DGMT is the most comprehensive guide to over 2,000 of the largest UK-based grant-making charities that give grants to UK organisations.

The combined giving of all the grant-makers in this edition totalled almost £5.4 billion, of which nearly £5.2 billion was given to organisations (the other £200 million being given to individuals), making an increase of almost £1.1 billion from the last edition of the guide.

Despite the increase in funding, and the dedication and commitment of grant-makers, many charities across the country still struggling to secure the funds they need to continue helping their beneficiaries.

Ian Pembridge joined DSC in as a volunteer in April 2014 before becoming a full-time member of the team later that year, and he has worked on several publications including The Guide to Grants for Individuals in Need, The Guide to Company Giving and The Directory of Grant Making Trusts.
